Erik Janssen (1966) studied at the conservatory of Amsterdam, trumpet with Peter Masseurs principal trumpet player of the Royal Concertgebouw orchestra and conducting with Danny Oosterman.
He started as freelance trumpet player, and played with the Dutch Philharmonic Symphony orchestra, Royal Ballet Orchestra, Amsterdam Wind Orchestra, National Youth Orchestra and many more. Erik conducted wind bands, fanfare bands, big bands, musicals, symphony orchestras, and teached at several music schools.
He was invited to give conducting master classes at the Conservatory of Amsterdam and Groningen At the moment he is Musical Director, Brassband “De Spijkerpakkenband” , Koninklijke Harmoniekapel Delft and “Het Noord Nederland Jeugd Orkest” , (North Netherlands Youth Wind Orchestra) and his local town Fanfare Band OG Krommenie. Besides his conducting career he is managing director of the FEMU. Erik is professional conductor of the Carlton Main Frickly Colliery band in Yorkshire GB from May 2016 . Their first cooperation led to the victory in the Grand Shield competition in blackpool 2016. He was the first European conductor to win this trophy and the conductors award in the 96 years of history From 2006 – 2016 Erik was conductor of the professional military band of the Koninklijke Marechaussee. The period 2008- 2015 Erik was very successful with Brassband Schoonhoven winning all contest in Holland and Belgium in the period 2010-2013. A unique series of 8 wins in 8 competitions.
Erik conducted 5 times at the European Brassband Championship, and always had a top 6 finish. At the European Championship 2012 the winning own choice performance of Audivi Media Nocte of Oliver Waespi awarded with 99 points was a absolute highlight.
Erik Janssen is a Yamaha artist. From June 2016 Erik is managing director of the FEMU. From 1986 Erik works as Artistic Director at Molenaar Edition Music Publishers. In the past years he produced over 50 cd’s with windband, fanfare band and brass band music. Erik was invited to performed in a lot of countries such as England, Scotland, Belgium, Portugal, New Zealand, South Africa, Canada, France, Switzerland, Finland, Portugal, Sweden, Norway and Austria. 2013-2016 was a good year period for the first division band “de Spijkerpakkenband”. They ended runner up in the Dutch 1st division Brassband Championship 2013 and 2015, won this competition in2014 , they won the world music contest in Kerkrade 1st division brass band section in 2013. In 2015 the band won the Survento brass festival, and in 2016 they where the winners of the Flemish open 1st division. Erik visited several wind and brass -bands as guest conductor.
Last years he worked with Banda Amizade in Aveiro Portugal, Whitburn Brassband in Scotland, Woodfalls Brassband, the Paris Brassband, Manger Musikklag, the Swiss National youth band. Erik will lead several bands in the UK in 2016 and he will be on stage at the Grand Shield competition, The National Brassband Championships in the Royal Albert Hall and the Open English Brassband Championships in the Symphony Hall in Birmingham. In 2016 Erik was conductor of the European Youth Brassband in Lille, France. As adjudicator Erik was invited in Norway, Switzerland, France.
